November 7th
Roanoke Holiday Event

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Roanoke is hosting a special holiday event for refugee children. Twenty children will have the opportunity to "shop" for presents for their parents. Volunteers from the Unitarian Universalist Church will transport and host the children to the church facility on November 7th for a time of crafts, snacks, games, and gift shopping. The church has set up a "store" of gift items for the children to "purchase" for their parents, and each child will be given a ticket to select a present for his/her parent. "The point of all of this is to offer them the chance to give to someone else," says Shelley Braby, a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church, who is helping to organize the event. Shelley and her husband Chad have served as volunteer sponsors to a Bhutanese family in Roanoke and have demonstrated concern to the refugee community in numerous ways over the past year.
